Quercetin is a flavonoid that exerts anti-allergenic effects by inhibiting histamine which is a compound produced by the body during an allergic response.

Good food sources of quercetin include apples, berries, grapefruit, onions, cabbage and buckwheat.

Bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapples, can assist absorption of quercetin, therefore it may be beneficial to eat pineapple at the same time as a quercetin-rich food to improve its anti-allergenic effects.
