The Benefits of a Sugar-free Diet

    • Less dysbiosis in the gut
    • More sustained energy levels
    • Less acidity in the body
    • Less depletion of minerals
    • Better immunity
Adhering to a predominantly sugar-free diet has many health benefits. This may seem out of the question for some of you who have "a sweet tooth" and always seem to crave that bit of sweetness, but sugar, like many things, is a classic example of the less you have, the less you want or need it. This can be because dysbiosis in the gut feeds on sugar, making you crave it more, which in turn can make the dysbiosis worse, only to lead to even greater sugar cravings. Highs and lows in energy that are experienced more on a high sugar diet make you crave sweet foods as well, just to get you out of the low energy state, but they're actually just perpetuating the problem also, and potentially leading you down a path to other health issues such as insulin resistance and diabetes.
A good start is to just reduce your sugar and sweet food intake. Read ingredient lists on packaged foods, it's amazing how many of them contain sugar, but you can find sugar-free options if you look. However, don't go for sugar-free options that have just replaced the sugar content with artificial sweeteners as these are detrimental to good health.
As you consume less sugar you'll most likely find that your cravings for it reduce. And always remember when it comes to health: It's what you do most of the time that matters most, not what you do some of the time. In other words don't be too hard on yourself, you can still have the odd sweet thing here and there, think of it more as aiming towards a PREDOMINANTLY sugar-free diet, and you'll be on the right track to moving towards better health
