Is Magnesium Depletion Affecting Your Quality of Life?
6 October at 15:08 from atlas
Magnesium is an essential nutrient for the body, playing a vital role in all major biological processes. It is required for relaxation, mood regulation, energy production, and healthy immune and digestive function. It can help tight/sore muscles, muscle cramps or spasms, premenstrual syndrome and painful cramping during menstruation, depression, irritability, insomnia, anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, poor digestion, dizziness, twitching, hypertension, cardiovascular health, and assimilation of other minerals and vitamins.
Stress, alcohol, high sugar intake, and caffeine can deplete the body of essential magnesium. The effect of alcohol consumption on magnesium levels can be quite noticeable after a night of drinking... a propensity for leg cramps and a lighter, less restful sleep.
Good food sources of magnesium include nuts, seeds, legumes, leafy greens, avocados, cacao and bananas.
If you are not getting enough magnesium via your diet, and/or lifestyle factors are depleting your magnesium levels, it may be of benefit to supplement with magnesium. Natural, ionic liquid magnesium is recommended as it is a form of magnesium that is easily absorbed and utilised by the body. More info about signs and symptoms of magnesium deficiency, as well as other mineral deficiencies, can be found here.
